Octopus and Maiden

Artist Notes

Octopus and maiden are conceived as a narrative piece in a traditional Japanese style across the upper back, at 40x25 cm and two sessions. The composition is horizontal and organises two parallel scenes that read as a single story: the red octopus in a blue kimono and the maiden, joined by ornamental elements and the artist red seals. Colour is worked saturated with firm contours, leaning on black to separate planes and hold the structure of the narrative. The wide format adapts to the upper back, using the surface to unfold the whole without forcing the anatomy. The intention is a work of strong symbolic and folkloric presence, where every area has something to discover and the read changes with the distance from which it is seen.
